By Counselor Karen: Sometimes I find it hard to find subjects to write something that really touches the human spirit. Usually, in those times, life throws me something that I long to share. Today was one of those days.
I was surfing my Facebook page and reading all the timeline posts from my friends and family. I happened to get alerted to a private message on the side. It was from a lady that I don’t really know. A stranger I added as a friend when playing online games a couple of years ago. Although I did not know her personally, I often read her posts that would complain of being in pain, or being extremely tired.
In this message all she said was, “I will miss your perkiness.” I proceeded to ask her, “Why will you miss it? Where are you going?” She informed me that she was dying and that she only had three months to live. My first thought is what one should say to someone that just said they were dying. Thank goodness God had some very nice words for her that I forwarded as well as encouraged her with.
After talking to her for some time, it really hit me that we as human beings are being watched everyday by others. So, it is so important to keep our attitude in check, to be positive, and to encourage others. I did not know that she had been actively following me on Face book and that she found great joy in reading my funny posts and encouragement to friends, as well as sharing my faith. It was just a huge reminder that even when you think you are not being watched, that many are watching. You can choose to be a negative, nasty person, or you can put out enthusiasm, love, and support for everyone that your life touches.
I do believe it is easy to be caught up in our own lives that we fail to see the heartbreak or problems in someone else’s. I know that in our own troubles we can be negative and want to spew that all over those we love but strangers even more so. I am not saying it is easy to love all the time. But I do think it’s an important reminder to us all that hurting people are looking for something more in others. They are looking for that person that cares. Though it is a fact many people are jealous of happy people, I am a firm believer that when you are in a good place in life you should share that joy, because times of joy come in seasons. There might be a time where you need to embrace someone else’s joy to get through your hard one.
I feel it is so important to wake up each day and be thankful, and set your mind to reaching others in love rather than being focused solely on your own problems. I know the world would be a better place if we all remembered… people are watching us. You can be that person that leaves a bad impression or someone that can change the course of someone’s day to something amazing. Blessings come through those that put others first!
