Finding Your Purpose Through Spiritual Intuition

By Bridgette: Most of us are taught to look for purpose outside ourselves—in a job, a title, a relationship or an achievement.

Yet nearly every spiritual tradition points us in the opposite direction. Purpose is not necessarily something that is built or earned, but rather something that is remembered. It waits quietly beneath the noise, and the faculty many spiritual traditions believe we use to discover it is intuition.

WHAT INTUITION REALLY IS
Intuition is often described as a “gut feeling,” but spiritual practitioners see it as something much richer—a form of inner knowing that arrives without logical steps or explanation. Some call it the voice of the soul, while others describe it as the higher self or inner guidance.

Psychic intuition, sometimes expressed through clairvoyance (clear seeing), clairsentience (clear feeling), clairaudience (clear hearing) or claircognizance (clear knowing), is understood in many spiritual traditions as a heightened expression of this same intuitive sense.
You may not identify as psychic, but you have probably experienced intuition at some point: the sudden certainty that a decision is wrong, the unexpected pull towards a stranger who later becomes a mentor, or a dream that feels more like a message than simply a story.
Sceptics may attribute such moments to pattern recognition and subconscious processing, while believers may see something more mysterious. Either way, these experiences can point towards a part of ourselves that seems to know more than our analytical mind can explain.
WHY PURPOSE CAN HIDE IN PLAIN SIGHT

Purpose rarely announces itself with thunder. More often, it whispers through recurring themes—the things you could not stop thinking about as a child, the injustices that make your chest tighten, or the activities that make hours seem to disappear.
As a spiritual teacher, I often say that your deepest pain and your deepest gift can be neighbours. The wound that taught you compassion may become the doorway to the work you are here to do.

The challenge is that intuition speaks softly, while modern life is loud. Constant stimulation, other people’s expectations and fear can all drown out that inner signal.

PRACTICES FOR TUNING IN
Stillness and meditation can provide a foundation. Even ten minutes a day of quiet breathing can train you to notice subtle impressions rather than reacting to every thought. Intuition rarely competes with mental chatter; it often surfaces when the chatter begins to settle.
Journalling can also help. Writing freely without editing, particularly after meditation or upon waking, creates space for subtle thoughts and feelings to emerge. Ask yourself a clear question, such as, “What am I meant to move towards?” Then record whatever arises. Over time, patterns may emerge that would be difficult to recognise from a single moment.

Many spiritual traditions also view dreams as a potential channel for guidance. Pay attention to recurring themes, people, places or emotions within your dreams.

Body awareness is another valuable practice, as intuition can sometimes seem to communicate physically through feelings of expansion, warmth, lightness or discomfort. Try checking in with your body before making important choices and notice how different possibilities make you feel.
You can also become more aware of synchronicities—meaningful coincidences, recurring numbers, phrases or unexpected encounters. Whether you view these experiences spiritually or simply as prompts to pay closer attention, they can encourage you to become more conscious of the direction your life is taking.

PURPOSE AS A LIVING PATH
Perhaps one of the most freeing ideas is that purpose does not have to be a single destination.
Discernment, however, is extremely important. Not every inner voice deserves to be followed. Fear, ego and wishful thinking can sometimes masquerade as intuition. Genuine intuitive guidance often feels calm, clear and steady, even when it asks something difficult of us, whereas anxiety tends to feel urgent, unsettled and scattered.

Test what you receive. Take small steps, observe the results and seek wise counsel when necessary. If you consult a psychic reader, consider their words as guidance and reflections to explore rather than absolute verdicts about your future.
Your purpose can also evolve as you do. Your purpose at 20 may look very different from your purpose at 50, yet each stage may still serve the same underlying themes—love, healing, creativity, service or truth.

Begin where you are. Sit quietly, ask sincerely and listen.
The answer may not arrive as a dramatic vision or a voice. Instead, it may come as a gentle but persistent pull towards something that simply feels like home.

I am always here to listen, support and guide you through matters of the heart and mind.

Love and Light,

Bridgette
