By Hazel: Have you ever had a tarot reading where the cards showed a new job, a house move, a new relationship or another exciting opportunity

— only to find yourself wondering weeks or months later, “Why hasn’t it happened?”

It’s an understandable question.

When a reading shows a positive possibility, it can be easy to assume that the outcome is simply going to arrive. But tarot doesn’t necessarily work that way.

A tarot reading can show possibilities, opportunities and the direction that things appear to be heading at the time of the reading. What it cannot do is take the necessary steps for you.

If the cards suggest a new job, you still have to search for opportunities, send applications, attend interviews and put yourself out there.

If the cards suggest a house move, you still need to look at properties, speak to agents, arrange viewings, consider your finances and make the necessary applications.

If the cards indicate the possibility of meeting someone new, you may still need to open yourself up to meeting people, accept invitations, try something different or simply allow yourself to be more socially available.

A reading can point you towards a door — but you still have to walk through it.

Tarot Shows Possibilities, Not a Fixed Script

One of the most important things to understand about tarot is that life is constantly moving.

We all have free will. We make decisions every day, and so do the people around us. Circumstances can change, opportunities can appear and disappear, and sometimes the choices we make can take us in a slightly different direction.

A reading may show the strongest potential surrounding you at that particular moment, but that doesn’t mean you have no part to play in what happens next.

Think of tarot a little like being shown a possible route on a map. The route may be there, but you still have to make the journey.

Sometimes you may take a different turn. Sometimes there may be an unexpected delay. And sometimes another opportunity may appear that turns out to be better suited to you than the one you originally expected.

That doesn’t necessarily mean the reading had no value. The reading may have been highlighting the potential for change and encouraging you to start moving towards it.

Ask Yourself What You Have Done Since the Reading

So, if you were told that a new job or house move was around you and it hasn’t happened yet, it can be helpful to ask yourself:

Have I actually taken the steps needed to help make that possibility happen?

Perhaps the cards showed career change, but you haven’t applied for anything because you were waiting for an opportunity to find you.

Perhaps you were shown a move, but you haven’t started looking at properties because you expected circumstances to somehow fall into place on their own.

Or perhaps fear, uncertainty or self-doubt has stopped you from taking the next step.

There is nothing wrong with that. Sometimes a reading can actually help us recognise where we may be holding ourselves back.

Timing Can Be Difficult Too

Timing is another important part of readings.

People naturally want to know when something will happen. Will I meet someone this month? Will I get the job by Christmas? Will I move house this year?

But timing can be one of the more difficult aspects of intuitive and tarot readings because so many different factors can influence how quickly something develops.

For example, a new career opportunity may be showing strongly around you, but perhaps you need to submit several applications before finding the right position. A house move may be ahead, but there could be delays with finances, paperwork or finding the right property.

This is why it can sometimes be more helpful to view timing as a window of potential rather than a guaranteed deadline.

A Reading Should Empower You

Tarot isn’t about sitting back and waiting for life to happen.

At its best, a reading can help you gain clarity about the path ahead, recognise opportunities, understand challenges and make more informed choices.

Tarot readers can guide you through difficult periods, help you see situations from another perspective and highlight possibilities that you may not have considered.

But sometimes, you have to do the footwork yourself to make things happen.

The difficult thing is, we haven’t got magic wands to wave and make everything happen for you! ✨

If you want a new job, you have to apply for those jobs.

If you want to move house, you have to start looking, make enquiries and take those steps forward.

If you want change in your life, sometimes you have to be willing to participate in creating that change.

A tarot reading can show you the door, but you have to be the one who opens it and walks through.

The cards may give you direction, reassurance and insight into the possibilities ahead, but your actions, choices and determination can play an important part in what happens next.

So, rather than asking only, “Why didn’t the prediction happen?”, perhaps there is another question worth asking:

“What can I do now to help move myself towards the future I want?”

Sometimes that is where the real power of a reading begins.

Kind regards,
