By Rachael: Contrary to popular misconceptions, witchcraft isn’t about dark magic or cauldrons; it’s a path of self-discovery, empowerment, and a deep connection with nature.

Being a witch means understanding and embracing the life-death-life cycle that influences all aspects of existence. This awareness allows witches to harness the natural ebb and flow of life, manifesting their desires and intentions in harmony with these cycles. Today, witchcraft is experiencing its own rebirth, growing in popularity as more people are drawn to its wisdom.

The word “witch” is believed to derive from the Old English wicce (for women) and wicca (for men). Historically, “wicca” referred to those who practiced witchcraft, not the modern religion we know today. Some scholars also suggest a connection to the word “wit,” meaning wisdom, but it’s more likely tied to the Proto-Germanic wikkjaz, meaning “to bend” or “to twist,” reflecting the practice of working with unseen or spiritual forces.

Witchcraft encompasses a wide range of practices and beliefs, often blending spirituality, herbalism, and intuitive wisdom. Modern witchcraft builds upon these ancient roots, offering a path for those seeking to connect with themselves, nature, and magic. What makes today’s practice unique is the incorporation of modern tools, which help deepen our spiritual connection. This fusion of ancient traditions with contemporary resources allows witches to practice in ways that are both new and relevant.

Technology, once thought to be at odds with spirituality, has become a powerful tool for witches. It connects us, provides access to information, and enables magical practices in ways that align with our modern lives. Ethernet cords connect us to the vast, unseen ether of the internet, where like-minded souls from all over the world gather. Our phones, computers, and watches contain crystals that store and amplify energy, tools we now use to aid in meditations, track moon phases, and even consult our birth charts. The availability of online psychic readings, virtual covens, and forums has expanded our ability to find community and guidance.

Even the most mundane objects can hold magical significance. Consider the pencil—crafted from wood and graphite—it too can be a tool of magic. In this way, magic is woven into the very fabric of our daily lives, hiding in plain sight.

If you’ve ever felt drawn to the mystical or sought to tap into your inner wisdom, you might be a witch. But how do you know if this ancient calling resonates with you in modern ways? Here are a few signs:

You frequently notice repeating angel numbers on your devices.

You think of someone right before they call or text you.

You observe synchronicities—what some call the “algorithm” of life.

You feel guided through songs, posts, or signs from your surroundings.

You’re interested in blending sustainable living with modern technology.

You find magic and community in online spaces.

You often long to disconnect from the modern world and immerse yourself in nature.

These modern expressions of witchcraft are deeply rooted in ancient practices, yet we are on the verge of even greater technological awakening, as Pluto enters Aquarius. This shift encourages us to embrace new innovations that can further enrich our spiritual practices. As we navigate this transformation, we’re reminded that witchcraft is not a relic of the past but a living, evolving tradition that grows alongside humanity.

Our ancestors, who practiced the craft, are watching as we explore modern witchcraft, and in many ways, they learn from us as well. Just as we draw from their wisdom, they observe our innovative approaches—bridging the past with the future.

In this way, we’re not only evolving as modern witches but also weaving our own threads into the ever-expanding tapestry of witchcraft. By honoring tradition while embracing new paths, we carry forward their legacy and ensure that witchcraft remains a dynamic, ever-evolving journey for generations to come.
